Michal Doron, Israeli-American Mezzo-soprano.

A current member of the of the Semperoper Dresden's Ensemble, and a graduate of the Semperoper’s Young Ensemble Program, as well as the ‘Meitar’ opera studio at the Israeli Opera. 

Already as a student stood Michal out as she won several scholarships and awards, and as she was chosen personally by maestro Zubin Mehta to sing in a Gala evening conducted by him.

Over the years since graduating from the Buchman-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv she sang under the baton of a variety of conductors, among which are Christian Thielemann, Philippe Jordan, Daniel Oren, Allen Gilbert, Omer Meir Welber, Dmitri Jurowski, Nikolaj Znaider, Antonino Fogliani, Gaetano D’Espinsa, Christoph Gedschold, Giampaolo Bisanti, Alessandro de  Marchi and John Fiore.

During the Season of 23/24 Michal returned to the stage of the Staatsoper Berlin as Jezibaba (Rusalk), as well as in Die Walküre as Waltraute. At the Semperoper she debuted the roles of Mother in "Hänsel und Gretel" and Antonia's Mother in "the Tales of Hoffmann". She is also expected to make her house debut in the Zurich opera house as Grimmgerde (Die Walküre).

In the beginning of the 22/23 season she made her debut at the Berlin Staatsoper, singing Waltraute in Wagner’s “Die Walküre”, staged by Dimitry Tcherniakov and conducted by Christian Thielemann and Thomas Guggeis.

Other highlights of this season are Michal’s role debut as Erda in “Das Rheingold” and as Erste Norn in “Götterdämmerung“, conducted by Christian Thielemann with the Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as two other role debuts in Dresden: Jezibaba in “Rusalka” and Polina in a new production of “Pique Dame” directed by Andreas Dresen and conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov.

Michal joined the Ensemble of the Semperoper in season 19/20, after two seasons in the theater’s young ensemble program for young singers. During these few seasons in Dresden she sang the roles of Fenena (Nabucco) Brigitta (Die tote Stadt), Cornelia (Julio Cesare), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro) to name a few.

In early 2020 sang Michal the role of Annina in a production of “Der Rosenkavalier”at the Theater und Philharmonie Essen. Later that year, a few engagements were unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic: Mary (Der Vliegende Holländer) in Lyon, Erda (Rheingold) and Hanna (Die Passagierin) in Saarbrücken and Erda (Rheingold) and Brahm’s Alto Raphsody in Dresden.

In 2019 sang Michal Mahler’s song cycle “Des Knaben Wunderhorn” with the Jerusalem Symphony conducted by Frederic Chaslin. A year before, in January 2018, she took part in the "Aviv" competitions (the America-Israel Cultural Foundation prestigious contest) in Israel, and won a Special Achievements Award from the competition’s management as well as the Audience Choice Award. More recently, in June 2022 she was a finalist at the “Voci Verdiane” competition in Italy.

In The season of 16/17 Michal joined the "Meitar" Opera Studio of the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, where she performed roles both on the main stage and in chamber productions. Memorable ones were Baba in Menotti’s The Medium and Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Sour Angelica. In October 2016 she made her USA debut as Maddalena in a Rigoletto production with the Opera in Williamsburg, Virginia.

She started her vocal training when she was nearly 18, with Lilly Epstein, and later accomplished her B.Mus. degree from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in the Tel Aviv University, where she was vocally trained by Danna Glaser.                               
She received the 1st prize in the BMSOM's annual Vocal Competition and 3rd prize in the school's annual Contemporary Music Competition. Significant appearances she had on the School’s stage were Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), Mozart Requiem and Petite Messe Solennelle.  

Michal is a recipient of many excellence scholarships from institutes and organizations such as The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, the Ronen Foundation, the Eli Leon Foundation and the International Summer Opera workshops in Tel Aviv and New York.
